The Fitbit

I used the exercise mode on the fitbit today. I played a workout video with some Latin dancing. It was fun and exhausting but it helped me get my steps up and burned some calories off.

I'm trying to remain in a caloric deficit in hopes of losing some weight. I think it would help a lot of the health issues I've been dealing with.

The meditation feature continues to be useful throughout the day. Although, I did discover, that third party apps are not supported on this model of fitbit. That's disappointing as I was hoping to play around with some ideas.

I'm considering getting an older Pixel watch in October when the new model is announced. I've done Android development in the past so I think it should be pretty straight forward.

The chickens

We shepherded the chickens again today for about 45 minutes. It was very hot and humid though. They found a lot of bugs in the grass probably due to this.

We used some grass to lure them back into their run and they came in right away. Thankfully, these chunky balls of feathers are very food motivated.

Subway

Subway had a deal for 2 foot long subs for $15.99 so that's what he had for dinner. I like subway subs despite their cardboard texture. They're filling and the calories are pretty low considering how full they makes me.

Thoughts on Community

We don't really have communities anymore like we used to prior to the invention of the television. Pre-TV if you wanted entertainment you had to interact with other people; neighbors, family, coworkers, etc. Same for educational and social needs. This helped build strong relationships that led to some important qualities that are missing today. Everyone knew everyone in their community so if you needed help they would extend a hand as your problems are theirs by extension. Crime was a little harder to commit as you're hurting someone who has helped you in the past and if you get caught there's the social stigma that carried the price of being shunned from the people who could give you work or socialize with you.

Humans are social creatures and need contact with other humans for mental health and fulfillment. The online spaces we have today lack the realness and connections that develop when you meet people regularly face to face.

The television, and technology in general, has improved our lives in countless ways but it has removed the most important thing all humans need - real communities. At the end of the day we need to ask what is all of this for if we're miserable and unfulfilled.
