She blinded me with science
We went to the science museum. Almost all the exhibit were interactive so it was fun playing with them and learning a bit about the mechanisms that make them work. We did notice that a lot of exhibits are geared towards children and it made us realize that the majority of activities in most cities are for families with children.
This made me wonder if adults really aren't interested in doing anything other than going to bars and restaurants. Even the majority of city hosted activities are for kids. Sounds a bit boring to me if that's all they really have to offer adults without children.
Missing pieces
For a while I've been searching for an electronics shop that carries actual electronics parts like capacitors and resistors. We found a place about 45 minutes away that looked promising but once we arrived we realized they only do repairs and sell things like cellphone cases and chargers.
The only other electronics store we have nearby is Best Buy and they don't carry any parts or maker components. Sure, I can buy them online but I'd like a place where I can go in and ask the staff questions or be able to physically hold the parts. I like playing with my raspberry pi so it would be nice to have a place that carries sensors and actuators for it.
American Gladiator
I found a season of American Gladiator on YouTube. This was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Rewatching it now is just as exciting as it used to be. The athleticism of the gladiators and competitors was incredible and the hits and slams were real. I think they don't make shows like that anymore because there's too much risk of injury. In fact, I heard a lot of the gladiators would constantly experience concussions and other injuries.
When I was growing up, there were so many fun shows like Double Dare, Legends of the Hidden Temple, and Wild and Crazy Kids that don't exist anymore. These shows encouraged us to be active and adventurous in our youth. I wonder if kids today have anything that inspires them in the same way?
