The Hobbit

Chapter 5 - Riddles in the Dark

  • Waking up in the darkness

Bilbo wakes up in darkness, unable to see anything around him. He reaches around the floor and finds a ring which he simply puts into his pocket.

He reaches in his other pocket for his pipe and tobacco, finds them, but doesn't find anything to light them with. He then finds the Gondolin dagger he acquired from the troll dwelling.

The dagger glowed faintly so Bilbo could see a bit and he realized it also meant it was Elvish made and that goblins were not very near.

Bilbo makes his way deeper into the cave and comes across a pool of water. He dare not enter it for it is unknown what could lurk within.

The Eye of the World

The raven atop the inn

The boys make their way out of the inn and feel like they're being watched. A raven perches atop the inn and cocks its head to stare a beady eye in their direction. They throw rocks at it unsuccessfully until Lady Moiraine shows up and the raven flies away.

Lady Moiraine is dressed superbly with real gold and blue hues on her dress and cloak.

Atomic Habits

The habits scorecard

The first step in changing our habits is being aware of them. Create a list of all the habits you do and score them with a + if it is beneficial in the long term a - if its not and an = if its neutral. If you have trouble scoring some items think of how it aligns with the identity you desire.

Then, as a first step, just be aware when you do certain habits. Don't judge yourself. Sometimes it helps to say out loud what you're about to do and how it aligns or doesn't with your long term goals. For example, if you're about to eat a cookie you can say, "I'm going to eat this cookie. I don't need to. It will make me gain weight and not be good for my health."

This last advice sounds a lot like judging though.
