The group makes their way through fields of giant bees and finally arrives at the edge of some oak trees. Gandalf tells them to come in twos every five minutes following the way he goes.

Gandalf and Bilbo go first and meet the tall man Beorn. He is forewarned of their coming by his well groomed horses. Gandalf introduces himself, saying he is the cousin of Radagast who Beorn seems to know. Then Gandalf proceeds to tell the story of their journey as the dwarves enter two by two. At first Beorn is surprised at how many uninvited guests he's receiving but then finds it comical.
